The WD and HO Wills Building in Newcastle was designed by Cecil Hockin, an in house architect with the Imperial Tobacco Company. Hockin was known for his work on several buildings for the company, and his designs often reflected the sleek, modernist style popular in the mid-20th century. After the factory closed in 1986, the building stood empty for several years before being redeveloped into luxury apartments in 1999.
