St Giles’ Church, Cheadle – "Pugin’s Gem"

St Giles’ Roman Catholic Church in Cheadle, Staffordshire, is one of the supreme achievements of Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin and is widely regarded as the finest of his churches. Built between 1841 and 1846 for John Talbot, 16th Earl of Shrewsbury, it was conceived as a complete expression of the Gothic Revival, with Pugin designing not only the building but virtually every aspect of its furnishings and decoration.
