Alan Ainsworth has been a photographer for over 40 years. He combined his photography with a business career until 2006, when he shifted to focus exclusively on his photographic practice and writing.

Alan is known for his work in the field of architectural and built environment photography. Alongside client commissions, Alan has published several books: Clerkenwell: change and renewal, an illustrated account of urban renewal, was published in 2011 and his latest architectural book - New City: Contemporary Architecture in the City of London (with Alec Forshaw) - covers the rebuilding of the City of London over the last 25 years.

The other area of Alan's practice is in the field of music and performance photography. His extensive archive of images of jazz musicians is one of the largest in the country. Theatre and music commissions have grown in recent years following his year-long photographic residency at the University of Warwick Arts Centre.

Alan is currently writing a book on the history of street photography.
